AO Kaspersky Lab

Vendor

Kaspersky was founded in 1997 by Eugene Kaspersky, who had been writing antivirus code since 1989, after finding the Cascade virus on his own work machine. It is privately held — unusually for a vendor of its size it has never listed or been acquired — and employs more than 6,000 people across some 30 offices, with its European headquarters in Zurich. Home users buy three tiers: Kaspersky Standard, Kaspersky Plus and Kaspersky Premium, with Kaspersky Safe Kids, Kaspersky VPN and Kaspersky Password Manager sold separately. Businesses start at Kaspersky Small Office Security and move up the Kaspersky Next line — Kaspersky Next EDR Foundations, Kaspersky Next EDR Optimum and Kaspersky Next XDR Optimum, up to Kaspersky Next XDR Expert — with Kaspersky MDR as the managed service above them. Two things are worth knowing before comparing its results with anyone else's. Its research team, GReAT, is among the industry's most prolific publishers of state-actor malware analysis. And in June 2024 the US Department of Commerce prohibited the sale of Kaspersky software in the United States, and US customers were migrated to another vendor's product; the company continues to sell elsewhere and to enter the European public test cycles, which is where its results in this index come from.

A sales ban, asset freeze, export ban or federal procurement ban that names the company itself. Each measure above names Kaspersky Lab, not any individual product, and applies only where it says. CSI records what a government has published and links to it; this is not an assessment of the vendor's products, and the vendor stays listed so the record can be read. Lists were last checked on 2026-10-09.
