What this index is, what it is not, and what you may do with it.

What a fact here is

A fact read from a source names that source and the date it was read. That is a record of what a source said, not an independent verification that it is true. A price is the price shown on a vendor’s page on a given day; a test score is what a laboratory published.

Some values are CSI’s own work rather than a source’s — the categories a product is placed in, the descriptions we write, values our editors enter, and figures we estimate where a vendor publishes none, such as revenue or customer numbers. Those are labelled as CSI’s own, and an estimate is always captioned as one. Sources says which is which.

The order in which products are listed is not a rating either. How the default order is decided — including where our editors choose which products lead a category — is set out in How lists are ordered.

Use it as a starting point for your own diligence, not as a substitute for it. CSI makes no warranty that any figure here is current, complete or correct, and nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy or not buy a product.

Absence is not a judgement

A blank cell means CSI holds no value — not that the answer is no. A product with no test score has not failed a test; a product with no certification has not been refused one. Sources & how to read the data sets out the four different ways a value can be absent, and the tables distinguish them.

A product being absent from CSI entirely means nobody has added it. It is not a statement about that product.

Vendor submissions

What a vendor submits about its own product is recorded as the vendor’s own claim and never as independently verified. That is not a comment on any particular vendor: a claim about your own product is evidence of what you say, and CSI records it as what it is.

Sources, and what CSI stores of them

CSI stores derived facts — that a product exists, its version, the platforms it runs on, a price — together with a link to the source and a hash of what was read. It does not republish source documents, and the copyright in them stays with whoever holds it. Where a figure matters to you, follow the source link and read the original.

Using what is here

You may read, quote and link to pages on this site, and export a table you are looking at. Please cite CSI and, where the point turns on a specific figure, the underlying source it names — that link is the useful half of the citation.

Bulk or automated collection is not what this site is sized for. If you want the data in quantity, ask at info@cyberindex.com rather than crawling it — CSI honours other people’s crawl rules and asks the same.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us. Corrections are reviewed and, when accepted, published with their own evidence and dated — the previous value is superseded rather than erased, so the record of what CSI said and when survives.

Trademarks and logos

Product and company names, and the logos shown beside them, are the property of their owners. CSI shows them to identify the products it lists — it is not affiliated with the vendors, and nothing here implies their endorsement.

If you own a mark shown here and want it removed or changed, write to info@cyberindex.com and it will be dealt with. A logo can be removed without removing the product entry.

We answer within 30 days, the same period the privacy notice commits to, and usually sooner. Logos are fetched automatically from vendors’ own sites, so this is a route we expect to be used; asking us to drop a logo is not a complaint and it does not affect how the product is listed.

Using this site

Read it, search it, link to it, quote it, and export the table in front of you. None of that needs asking.

CyberIndex is intended for people aged 18 and over, and accounts are for people aged 18 or over. The site is written for people choosing security products at work, and it is not directed at children.

Four things we ask you not to do, and the reason for each:

If a request pattern is hurting the site we will block it, and if you think a block is wrong, write to info@cyberindex.com and we will look at it.

No warranty, and limits on liability

CSI is compiled from published sources and its own research, and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. A value read from a source carries that source and the date it was read, and an estimate is labelled as one, so you can tell what to check — and you should, before making a purchasing decision on it.

So this site is provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind: we do not promise that a value here is accurate, current or complete, that a product is fit for your purpose, or that the site will be available when you want it. A test result, a certification or a price is a record of what a source said on a date, not advice about what you should buy.

Decisions you make from this data are yours. We are not liable for loss that follows from relying on a figure here without checking it — which is why a figure read from a source names it, and an estimate says it is one. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Which law applies

Talk to us first. Almost every problem with this site is a wrong figure, a missing product or a logo someone wants changed, and each is fixed faster by writing to info@cyberindex.com than by any other route. We answer within 30 days, and usually much sooner.

Where the site runs. CSI is hosted on servers in the United States and is open to readers wherever they are.

Your own rights still apply. If you use this site as a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away a protection that the law of the country you live in gives you and does not allow to be signed away.

May we count your visit? CyberIndex would like to use Google Analytics to see which pages are read. It sets cookies and sends your visit to Google. Decline and nothing is loaded — the site works the same either way. Privacy.
