Endian

Endian is an Italian company from Appiano, in South Tyrol, founded in 2003, that builds its firewalls on open-source foundations and publishes a free community edition alongside the commercial products — the same model several European network vendors in this index use. Endian UTM is the general-purpose appliance, available as hardware, software or a virtual machine, covering firewalling, VPN, web and mail filtering and intrusion prevention. Endian 4i is the industrial line, built for factory and utility networks where the requirement is secure remote access to machinery and segmentation between plant and office networks rather than protecting office PCs. Its industrial products are the more distinctive half of the business. As a network vendor it is not assessed by the malware laboratories whose results fill much of this index.
