Datto

Datto sells to managed service providers rather than to end customers, and its core business is backup and continuity — keeping a copy of a small business's servers so they can be restored after a failure or a ransomware attack. It was founded in Connecticut in 2007, listed in 2020, and was acquired by Kaseya in 2022 for around six billion dollars. Security is a newer addition to that. Datto EDR is its endpoint detection and response product, which came from its acquisition of Infocyte, and Datto AV is the antivirus sold beside it; both are bought by the same service providers who already run its backup. The framing matters when comparing it here. These are products bought by an IT provider to manage across many small clients, priced and packaged for that, rather than by an organisation choosing endpoint protection for itself.
