Product

Endpoint detection and response offered in the Webroot/OpenText business endpoint line. OpenText Core EDR unifies endpoint protection, SIEM, SOAR, and alert triage in one platform. OpenText endpoint security [EP + EDR] delivers on all three essentials—it’s highly effective at stopping threats, lightweight so it doesn’t slow down systems, and completely reliable. If you're already using OpenText Core Endpoint Protection (EP), you can simply add the EDR module. OpenText EDR (Webroot) covers macOS, Windows and Windows Server.

Vendor

Webroot's distinguishing idea was to move the work off the machine. Rather than shipping signature files to every endpoint, it kept the classification in the cloud and left a very small agent behind — which made it notably light on system resources and made its behaviour in comparative tests unlike that of conventional scanners, since much of what it does depends on a live connection. It is no longer independent. Carbonite bought Webroot in 2019, and OpenText bought Carbonite later the same year; the products are now sold as Webroot by OpenText. The consumer range is Webroot Essentials, Webroot Premium and Webroot Total Protection, with Family editions of the upper tiers, plus a Chromebook edition, an antivirus aimed at PC gamers, a PC optimizer and a VPN. Organisations buy Webroot Business Endpoint Protection and the DNS and security-awareness services beside it, sold largely through managed service providers. Vendor page →
