SurfRight was a Dutch company from Hengelo that made HitmanPro, a second-opinion scanner designed to be run on a machine that already had antivirus and was infected anyway. It scanned with multiple engines in the cloud, took a few minutes, and was widely recommended for exactly that job; HitmanPro.Alert added live protection against exploit techniques and ransomware behaviour. Sophos acquired SurfRight in 2015. The technology was absorbed into Sophos's own endpoint products — the exploit-prevention and anti-ransomware components of Sophos Intercept X descend from HitmanPro.Alert — and the HitmanPro tools continue to be published by Sophos rather than by SurfRight.
