Product

Managed internal firewall that segments the LAN into security zones to limit lateral movement. Running SD-WAN and LAN traffic on a single appliance is technically possible, but once complexity rises they should be split. Once a site reaches a certain size, headquarters and branch locations have to cover many different endpoints: guest wifi, printers and scanners, R&D equipment, IoT devices. If it is not kept loose, it becomes complex, because it has to cover local, internet and WAN cases at once. Among the capabilities recorded for it are application control, deep packet inspection, intrusion prevention (ips) and stateful inspection.

Vendor

Open Systems is a Swiss company from Zurich that has been running other organisations' networks since 1990 — long before the industry had a name for it. What it sells is not an appliance but an outcome: a managed secure network, delivered and operated by its own engineers from operations centres in Switzerland, the United States and Australia. Its platform combines SD-WAN with security service edge, and the firewalls listed here — its LAN, OT and SD-WAN firewall services — are components of that managed service rather than products bought and configured by the customer. Its market is mid-sized multinationals without large security teams of their own, and its Swiss base is part of the proposition for buyers with data residency concerns. As a managed network service it is not measured by the malware laboratories; what a buyer is assessing is an operations contract. Vendor page →
