Vendor

MacPaw is a Ukrainian software company, founded in Kyiv in 2008 by Oleksandr Kosovan, best known for CleanMyMac — a maintenance and clean-up application for macOS with a very large installed base. Security is a newer part of the business rather than its foundation. That part is Moonlock, the company's cyber-security division, which develops the malware detection engine now built into CleanMyMac and sells Moonlock as a standalone Mac protection product. Building a macOS-specific engine is unusual: most Mac antivirus products are ports of Windows engines, and Moonlock was written for the platform. The company has kept its engineering in Ukraine through the war and is open about it, which for some buyers is context worth having. Its detection products are young, so independent laboratory results for them are correspondingly thin compared with the long-established Mac suites in this index. Vendor page →
