Vendor

IKARUS is an Austrian security company in Vienna, in business since 1986, which makes it one of the oldest antivirus developers still independent and still running its own engine. That engine is a substantial part of the business: IKARUS licenses it to other manufacturers as an OEM component, so its detection appears inside products sold under other names. Its own products are IKARUS anti.virus for endpoints and IKARUS anti.virus in the cloud for managed deployments, with mail security, a security operations service and managed detection sold to Austrian and German organisations around them. It is a small vendor by the standards of this index but a long-established one, and it enters the European public test cycles often enough that its results can be compared with the larger suites rather than inferred.
