Vendor

ESET was in the antivirus business before it was an industry: the NOD engine was written in 1987 in what was then Czechoslovakia, and the company formed around it in 1992 once private enterprise became legal. It has never been acquired and has no outside owner, which is rare at its size and is why it publishes its own annual report rather than appearing as a line in a parent's. Home users buy the ESET HOME Security tiers — Essential, Premium and Ultimate — with ESET NOD32 Antivirus as the entry engine, ESET Mobile Security for Android on phones, ESET Cyber Security on macOS, and ESET Small Business Security for a handful of machines. Organisations buy tiers of the ESET PROTECT Platform: ESET PROTECT Entry, Advanced, Complete and Elite, up to the fully managed ESET PROTECT MDR, with ESET Endpoint Security on the workstations and ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server and ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server on the servers. What separates the upper tiers is ESET Inspect, the XDR module, and ESET LiveGuard Advanced, a cloud sandbox that detonates an unknown file before it is allowed to run. ESET calls the detection stack itself ESET LiveSense: signatures, its own DNA Detections, an Advanced Memory Scanner for fileless attacks, a UEFI Scanner for firmware, and the ESET LiveGrid reputation system. ESET Research publishes named malware analysis under its own byline and the ESET Threat Report, and the company has entered AV-Comparatives' and AV-TEST's public cycles continuously for over two decades — which is where most of the test results recorded against its products here come from. ESET says it protects more than a billion users and 500,000 business customers across 178 countries; those are the company's own figures. Vendor page →
