Product

Endpoint protection for small and midsize businesses covering Windows workstations, servers and remote workers. If a user attempts to access a malicious website, Emsisoft Business Security will immediately block the connection and prevent access to provide protection from both credential phishing and malware. Emsisoft Business Security constantly monitors for ransomware-like actions such as the manipulation of important processes and raises an alert if suspicious behavior is detected. Emsisoft Business Security ships with an advanced command line interface that is optimized to provide high performance in heavy load environments. It runs on macOS, Windows and Windows Server.

Vendor

Emsisoft began with a teenager's annoyance: Christian Mairoll wrote the first code in 1999 to get rid of a Back Orifice trojan that friends kept sending him over ICQ, and founded the company in 2003. It started in Austria and moved to New Zealand in 2014, where it is based now — the only vendor in this index headquartered there. It is small and deliberately so, and it has built a reputation out of proportion to its size on ransomware. Emsisoft has released free decryption tools for more ransomware families than any other company, joined the No More Ransom initiative in 2016, and its analysts are routinely cited in ransomware reporting. That work is given away and is not what the company sells. What it sells is Emsisoft Anti-Malware Home for individuals, Emsisoft Business Security and Emsisoft Enterprise Security + EDR for organisations, managed from the Emsisoft Management Console, with the free Emsisoft Emergency Kit for cleaning an already-infected machine. It enters the public test cycles regularly for a company of its size, so its rows here are better populated than most small vendors'. Vendor page →
