Dr.Web Security Space for Linux is Doctor Web's home anti-virus for GNU/Linux. It detects and removes malware, scans HTTP and mail traffic, and can be used from the command line or a graphical control center. Blocks viruses and malware from accessing the protected system and will cure the malignant programs that have already penetrated it. Scans webpages in real time and blocks access to dangerous sites, such as those used for phishing attacks. Supported platforms are Linux. It is recorded as supporting malware detection and web protection.

Vendor

Doctor Web sells the Dr.Web line, a scanner with an unusually long and unbroken lineage: Igor Danilov wrote the first version in 1992, and the company that sells it was established in 2003 around that engine. It is Russian, headquartered in Moscow, and privately held. Its distinguishing technical claim is independence. Dr.Web uses its own detection engine and its own virus laboratory rather than licensing anyone else's, and it is one of a small number of vendors of which that is true — most products in this index that are not from an engine owner are running someone else's technology under their own name. Households buy Dr.Web Security Space, with a version for mobile devices; organisations buy Dr.Web Enterprise Security Suite, which covers workstations, servers, mail gateways and mobile devices under one console, with Dr.Web KATANA for behavioural protection and a Linux line for servers. The company also sells to hosting providers and telecoms, where its products are administered on a subscription basis rather than per licence. Vendor page →
