Vendor

Cisco is a networking company that also sells a great deal of security, and its security portfolio has been assembled largely by acquisition — Sourcefire, OpenDNS, Duo Security, Meraki and, most recently, Splunk, each of which arrived with its own product and its own name. The security products in this index are the endpoint and firewall lines: Cisco Secure Endpoint, Cisco Secure Firewall, Cisco Meraki MX for cloud-managed branch security, and Cisco Multicloud Defense for cloud workloads, with Cisco Umbrella for DNS-layer filtering, Cisco Duo for multi-factor authentication, Cisco Identity Services Engine for network access control and Cisco XDR tying detections together. Cisco Talos, its threat intelligence group, is one of the largest commercial research teams in the industry and publishes widely; its findings feed every product above. For a buyer, the practical point is that Cisco's security is generally bought by organisations that already run Cisco networks, and the integration with that network is the argument for it.
