Vendor

Check Point invented the product category it still sells. Gil Shwed, Marius Nacht and Shlomo Kramer founded it in Tel Aviv in 1993 and shipped FireWall-1, the first commercial firewall to track the state of a connection rather than judging each packet on its own — the technique nearly every firewall since has used. Shwed still runs the company, which is listed on Nasdaq, employs over 7,000 people and keeps its international headquarters in Tel Aviv with a US head office in Redwood City. The range is organised into four names: Check Point Quantum for network security and the firewall appliances, Check Point Harmony for users, devices and email, Check Point CloudGuard for cloud workloads, and Check Point Infinity as the platform and management layer that ties them together. Check Point Endpoint Security is the agent that appears in this index. It sells almost entirely to organisations — there is no consumer line — and its firewall business is the older and larger half, which is worth knowing when comparing its endpoint results against vendors who do nothing else.
