Product

SASE platform that delivers Firewall-as-a-Service and runs on SecureEdge T-series hardware and VT virtual appliances. Barracuda SecureEdge is a cloud-native Firewall-as-a-Service with tightly integrated next-generation technologies, including application profiling, intrusion prevention, advanced threat and malware protection, antispam, and full-fledged network access control. Cloud-based web security and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) are integral components of Barracuda SecureEdge. Because it brings together Secure SD-WAN and next-generation security, Barracuda SecureEdge is more than just another SD-WAN product. It is available as a cloud instance, a hardware appliance and a virtual appliance.

Vendor

Barracuda built its business on email. Founded in 2003 in California, it made its name selling the Barracuda Spam Firewall — an appliance that sat in front of a mail server and filtered it — to organisations that wanted the problem solved without a project, and has extended that approach into network, application and data protection since. It is privately held, owned by the investment firm KKR. The products listed here are its network line: Barracuda CloudGen Firewall, which is built for distributed sites and cloud environments rather than a single perimeter, and Barracuda SecureEdge, its SASE platform. Around them sit Barracuda Email Protection, Barracuda Application Protection and its backup products. It sells largely to mid-sized organisations and through managed service providers, and its centre of gravity remains email security rather than endpoint protection — which is why the malware laboratories in this index have little to say about it.
