Linux package that scans files passing through an ICAP client such as Squid with the Avira antivirus engine. Avira ICAP Proxy Security solution is an ideal technology for vendors and enterprises looking to build or deploy their own branded solution without the burden of having to perform low level integration. Designed for use on the internet connection, ICAP Proxy Security scans and filters files to and from the internet using the Avira antivirus engine. The Avira cross-platform Anti-malware SDK (SAVAPI) is a platform that enables you to build a security solution on Windows, Mac, Linux systems, and supports both Intel and ARM processors. It is delivered as on-premises software.

Vendor

Avira was founded in 1986 by Tjark Auerbach as H+BEDV Datentechnik, in Tettnang, a small town near Lake Constance in southern Germany, where it still has its main office. It is one of the oldest continuously developed antivirus engines in this index, and for most of its life it was known for giving a capable scanner away free. It has changed hands twice in quick succession. Auerbach sold to the Bahraini investment group Investcorp in 2020 — the first outside investment in the company's history — and Investcorp sold it to NortonLifeLock for 360 million dollars in a deal that closed in January 2021. NortonLifeLock became Gen Digital in 2022, so Avira now sits alongside Norton, Avast and AVG under one owner; all four appear separately in this index. Its products are Avira Free Security, Avira Antivirus Pro, Avira Internet Security and Avira Prime, the last bundling the VPN, password manager and system tools across devices. The Avira engine has also long been licensed to other companies, so some products here under other names share its detection. Vendor page →
