Vendor

Acronis came to security from backup. Founded in Singapore in 2003 and now headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, it spent its first fifteen years making disk imaging and backup software — Acronis True Image is still the product many people know it by — and then folded anti-malware into it, on the argument that the company restoring your files after ransomware is the one that should have stopped it. That combined product is Acronis Cyber Protect, with Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud the version sold to managed service providers, which is the larger part of the business: the company says it works with more than 21,000 service providers serving 750,000 businesses. Acronis Snap Deploy handles system provisioning. For this index the framing matters. Acronis is tested as an anti-malware product and appears in the laboratory results accordingly, but what it sells is backup, disaster recovery and endpoint management with protection included — a buyer choosing it is usually replacing two products with one.
